Mile Fifteen

Mile Fifteen is the village where Mervyn’s Well is placed in memory of Mervyn Pascoe. It’s named ‘Mile Fifteen’ because it’s 15 miles from the nearest town, Kambia. The road going between Kambia and Madina cuts directly through this village making it a popular stop for people travelling between the towns, hence why we decided that this village was a vital place for a water well. Whilst visiting Mile Fifteen in April 2014, the villagers welcomed us with song and dance, offered us the traditional gift of rice, cola nut, palm oil and a goat, and then showed us the water they are currently drinking.
